Community Speaks: Speaking the Taboo

Check out the video testimony below by one of our very own EC members, Masoon Balouch.

Masoon recently connected with Tasveer, a non-profit that aims to challenge the negative stereotypes faced by South Asians and combat the racism and hate crimes that South Asian communities and folks struggle against. Tasveer provides a platform for South Asian voices through film, art, and storytelling, allowing a glimpse into the lives of South Asians. You can learn more about their work at tasveer.org.

Masoon was one of 8 participants in the Community Speaks: Speaking the Taboo series. This is an annual program that features monologues from South Asian participants, sharing their personal stories to dismantle the power (and silencing) of taboo subjects through storytelling.

Masoon shared her life story and experiences with intimate partner violence. We commend and admire her strength, resiliency, and courage, not only for what she has overcome but also for sharing her experiences with others. We appreciate and value her presence and sisterhood as part of our team! Thank you for sharing Masoon.
