SAWAI – The South Asian Women Autonomous and Independent Project
OUR MISSION & GOALS
Our goal is to:
- Support women in becoming autonomous and independent
- Connect them with resources in their neighborhoods
- Help them navigate public systems
- Encourage them to engage fully in Quebec society

PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES
SAWAI offers free Basic Skills Workshops and connects participants to local community resources.
Workshop topics include:

- Budgeting and using a debit card
- Visiting the library, CLSC and community centres
RIGHTS & EMPOWERMENT
- Women’s rights
- Legal and health systems
- Addressing violence against women
- Education and employment
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
- Arts, crafts, theatre and wellness
- Parenting support
- Community outings and picnics
- Cross-cultural exchanges
LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION
- Basic language classes
- Self-confidence and decision-making
- Public speaking and social participation

SAY Collective
The South Asian Youth (SAY) Collective is SAWCC’s youth initiative that centers the voices of South Asian youth in Montreal. The collective is rooted in anti-racist and feminist values and its goal is to create a safe space for healing and connection.


Current activities include:
- Dance classes
- Youth-led hangouts & gatherings
- Volunteering opportunities for youth

High School Programs
SAWCC offers weekly, lunchtime programs for high school girls across Montreal. We create safe spaces where girls can engage in discussions, creative arts and workshops with the goal of building their confidence and self-expression.
